I simply love Sands. It's relatively new to Southend, compared to places like Bella Italia, or Ask - but it's really rather good. My only criticism of Sands restaurant is that they don't (or at least didn't) change the menu very often, and it's quite small. I've eaten there 4 or 5 times now - and it scores on atmosphere, quality of food, and friendliness of service. There's often live music being played (pianist), and the lighting/ambiance lends itself to a pleasant evening out with friends or a romantic meal for two. The sound of the waves in the background, views of the sea out through the glass - or eating on the decking - all help make Sands a delightful place to eat. It's situated right on the sea-front, so you can walk off your food afterwards, or head up the road to the casino (Gentings, previously the Westcliff Casino). Sands is among my favourite restaurants in Southend, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
